Q1:
What’s the difference between a residential park home (mobile home) and a (caravan) holiday home?

A park home (sometimes called a “mobile home”) is for full residential use and can be used as a main, permanent UK address. Residents are protected for security of tenure by the Mobile Homes Act (1983). The property must comply with BS 3632 residential standard so that it can be used all year round whereas a holiday home is for holiday use for approximately 10 months of the year depending on the parks site license and complies with EN1647. This home is not your main or permanent residence.

Q2:
Do you know of any parks within a particular area?

Yes. Homeseeker can find out customers’ needs when they visit and recommend a shortlist of parks that would suit them. Homeseeker can also put customers in touch with any park in the UK they are interested in. Alternatively, customers can visit the most comprehensive parks website: www.ukparks.com or pick up a parks guide available at most good newsagents. The two leading magazines available are Park Home & Holiday Caravan (published by IPC Country & Leisure Media) and Park & Holiday Homes (Warners Group Publications PLC) again, available at good newsagents.

Q3:
What size does this model come in?

All Homeseeker’s ranges of park homes are available in a variety of lengths and widths. There are different layouts too; models have either two or three bedrooms and some have ensuite bathrooms, utility rooms or studies too. If none of the existing designs meet customers’ needs, then Homeseeker will design and build one to fit your exact requirements.

Q4:
How much does a park home cost?

This depends on the model and where the park is located within the UK. Your chosen park can give you an 'all-in' price for your preferred Homeseeker home on your chosen plot.

Q5:
What if I don’t want the furniture?

No problem. Homeseeker will always remove any items customers don’t want and credit the customer with the value of those items.

Q6:
Can I change the worktops, wardrobes, kitchen units and curtains?

Yes. Homeseeker offers a wide range of carefully chosen furniture, flooring, fabrics and appliances on all ranges. This means customers can personalise what is, after all, their own home. Homeseeker even offers choice of colours for roofs and rendering.

Q7:
Is it possible to have a home built to my own floor plan?

Yes. Homeseeker understands customers have their own styles that they might prefer to live with.

Q8:
Will you install my own fittings if I supply the products?

Yes. Homeseeker understands customers have their own interior styles that they might prefer to live with.

Q9:
Can Homeseeker hang pictures on the walls?

Yes, using normal picture hooks. If customers have something very heavy to hang then Homeseeker asks them to make this clear during the building so it can reinforce the wall with a wooden block behind the plasterboard wall.

Q10:
What guarantee do I get?

All Homeseeker Homes comply with BS3632 - 2005. They carry a comprehensive 10-year warranty through the National Park Homes Council Gold Shield Scheme, provided the park on which the home is sited is registered under the scheme (this is key as the base that the park builds to site the home has to meet the required standard too).

Q11:
Are they warm enough?

Yes they are, all the year round. Homeseeker’s homes are extremely well insulated throughout (walls, floor and roof). Energy efficient glass is fitted to doors and windows. Full central heating, with energy saving condensing combination boilers, is installed in all homes. The roof insulation is 250mm thick, much better than the majority of existing homes in the UK.

Q12:
Can I get the home insured?

Yes. Several companies offer insurance on park homes and details can be found in the park home magazines sold in newsagents. Copies are also available when you visit Homeseeker Homes.

Q13:
Do you know the running costs of a park home?

It depends on the fuel type used for heating the home. Homeseeker offers mains gas, LPG, oil or electric heating systems. Some parks include fuel as part of customers’ annual site fee but others don’t, so customers really need to discuss this with the park owner. Park homes usually fall into lower bands for Council Tax but again, customers should check with the park.

Q14:
Where can I view a Homeseeker home?

Homeseeker has a permanent display of five different models from each of its ranges which customers can view at its headquarters at Irthlingborough, Northamptonshire. The Park Home Village is open from 10 am to 4pm Monday to Friday and no appointment is needed. If customers wish to view on Saturday, the show homes are open between 10am and 1pm but an appointment must be made in advance. Homeseeker’s staff can help customers find a park anywhere they choose in the UK.

Q15:
How long does it take to build my home after I place the order?

When a customer places a firm order, Homeseeker can supply a precise finish date. Usually construction takes a few weeks though this is heavily dependent on the volume of work already in the factory. Also the time of year and type of model chosen affect finish dates.

Q16:
Is delivery and siting included?

They are usually included in the package of services offerd by the park owner and customers are advised to discuss delivery and siting directly with their chosen park and ask for an 'all-in' price.

Q17: I have my own plot of land, can I site a park home on it?

In principle, yes, but you will need permission from the planning department of your local authority first and you must obtain this at the design stage. Your planning officer will need to see the plans of the proposed home and Homeseeker will provide these, whether from its standard range or bespoke. Your planning officer will take a lot of other factors into account when deciding whether or not to grant permission for the siting of your park home and it is wise to talk to him/her about your proposals right at the outset, before you incur any costs. Homeseeker can adjust any of its designs to make sure your home meets the conditions of planning consent.

Q18: Can my park home be log clad?

Yes log effect cladding is offered as an optional extra to all models and various wood effect UPVC windows and doors can be added to give that rustic feel.

Q19: How mobile is a park home?

Park homes are manufactured on chassis with multiple axles and wheels which in effect makes them mobile. The homes are delivered to the park on special lorries. On arrival they are unloaded & towed into position, raised up on supports & levelled ready for the services to be connected. Skirting is then fitted to hide the chassis area.

Q20: Can I use a park home as a holiday home?

Park homes can be used as holiday homes but this will depend on the individual parks site licence.
